“3” – Tortiglione Monocultivar – Italian Extra Virgin Olive Oil 2023/24
Tortiglione is an autochthonous cultivar of the Teramo territory. Centenary trees with twisted trunks, often associated with abbeys and monasteries, which tell the olive culture of our region and give us an inimitable oil.
The Extra Virgin Olive Oil “3” Monocultivar Tortiglione is obtained from the milling of the Tortiglione variety alone.
Tortiglione is one of the cultivars with the highest number of polyphenols. Polyphenols are valuable antioxidant substances for our body. They give the oil its bitterness and spiciness and allow the extra virgin organoleptic properties to be preserved for longer.
Gennaro Montecchia decided to make this monocultivar between 2001 and 2002. An ambitious idea that became a symbol of intense oil.
Over the years, we have learned more about this variety, to take care of it all year round and identify the perfect harvest period. Over time, Number 3 has received numerous international awards and recognitions: the latest in Tokyo in 2023, with a gold medal.
Pairings
Tortiglione extra virgin olive oil expresses its best on the most structured dishes and with decisive flavors, which require equal strength in seasoning. It is perfect on legume soups, grilled meat, and aged cheeses. Those who love intense oil recommend it on simple bread and tomatoes.
